Home Again

For this week's assignment, I want to you write a short essay telling me (and your classmates) why your hometown is superior to all other hometowns. If you hate your hometown, you can argue the opposite. If you don't have a hometown, write about Provo.

I've lived in a lot of places, but I consider Bangkok, Thailand to be my hometown. It is superior to all other hometowns for tons of reasons. The first reason why it is so great is the people. Never have I met a nicer and more welcoming people. As a general rule they are hospitable, friendly, and genuinely nice to everyone they meet. In the Thai language there is not a direct translation for the word "no", rather one has to say "mai chai" which means "not yes". Another Thai word, which doesn't have a direct English translation, that describes the Thai mindset can only be described through an example: if one has only one cup of rice left to eat in the whole house and a visitor comes it is necessary to give the rice to the stranger. That is the code the Thai people live by, a selfless charitable code. Another reason why Bangkok is the best hometown is because of the food. Nothing is better than Thai food and the only way to get the authentic Thai taste that makes the food so good is to go to Thailand. Off the street you can get a delicious meal of khao pad gai, chicken fried rice, for about 50 cents or 20 baht. The use of chili pepper, galanga, lime, coconut, and other spices are what makes Thai food good, the preparation by a native Thai are what makes the food incredible. The weather in Thailand is another great thing. Thailand is known for its heat and humidity, and I love it. You can breathe in the air without hurting your throat and you can walk outside without the worry of any harsh climate conditions. Everything about the country can be described as soft or gentle. My hometown is the best and there is not a thing anyone could say to make me change my mind!
